How Fast Should I Be Able To Lose Weight?
You can lose weight incredibly quickly if you want to but many of these “silver bullet” solutions are regarded as unsafe by doctors and dieticians.
As much of the body is water, the single quickest way to lose weight is to dehydrate yourself which is what many of these fad diets actually do.
Sure you actually weight less but you still have the same amount of fat - so that defeats the aim.
Also consider that muscle weighs more than fat so if you are carrying out vigorous exercise to help increase your basal metabolic rate you may find you actually weigh the same or even more at the end of your diet because whilst you’ve lost fat you’ve gained muscle.
I have seen this happen on numerous occasions and it really can be very de motivating to work out regularly and eat right then not lose any weight unless you know the real reason - that you have made plenty of progress but have been measuring the wrong thing.
So first off I would suggest you don’t look at how fast you can lose weight but how fast you can lose fat.
Muscle growth is not bad.
Aim to reduce your body fat.
Body fat is normally measured as a percentage of your total mass and can be measured either using specialist scales or fat calipers.
The scales tend to be very expensive and the results you will see can vary drastically based on the amount of fluids in your body.
Body fat calipers are cheaper and generally more accurate so I suggest you use this method plus a journal to track your results.
And to answer the question “how fast should I be able to lose wight” the answer is you should be able to shed 2-3lbs of fat per week - maybe 4 at a push.
Any more than this is probably not good for you but these small changes add up fast turning you into a new slimmer you.
